The 72nd Vuelta a España rolled out on 19 August from Nîmes, concluding in Madrid on 10 September. The third grand tour of the 2017 UCI World Tour season delivered a truly historic finale: Chris Froome claimed overall victory, completing a rare Tour de France–Vuelta double in the same calendar year — a feat not achieved since Bernard Hinault back in 1978.
